In this article, we’ll provide answers to some of our most frequently asked questions about Invisalign® to help you decide if this treatment is right for you.
How does Invisalign® work?
Invisalign® aligners are an alternative to traditional wire braces. Wire braces use the tension of the wires to move your teeth into better alignment; in other words, when the wire is tightened, it pulls the teeth into place. In contrast, Invisalign® clear aligners use pressure to move your teeth. The sides of the aligners will slightly press on your teeth to move them into the desired position. Each new set of Invisalign® aligners will apply just the right amount of force, in the right places, to help you achieve a straighter smile.
Are Invisalign® aligners noticeable?
The main reason why people opt for Invisalign® clear aligners over traditional braces is their appearance. If you don’t like the look of traditional braces or want to appear like you’re not using aligners at all, then Invisalign® is for you. The aligners are practically invisible, and it is highly unlikely anyone will notice you are wearing them.
Can I take my aligners out when eating? Are there any food restrictions?
Another advantage of Invisalign® aligners is the lack of food restrictions. There are certain foods you should not eat while wearing traditional braces, such as popcorn, because they are likely to damage the braces. Fortunately, you can eat any food you want while using Invisalign® treatment, as you can safely remove the aligner prior to eating, then place it back on your teeth when finished.
